Summer Camp for Urban Youth
Every summer, Fernbrook Farms Education Center offers a summer camp to children in the local community, as well as underprivileged youth in the city of Trenton.Since 2006, our Summer Camp for Urban Youth has been offered at no cost to the children, and lunch is provided for them.Over the course of the last few summers, we have seen children overcome their fears of animals, heights, people, and dirt. They learned that insects are not scary and frogs feel comforted if you rub their bellies. As they explore the Farm, get dirty and play safely, they also have a chance to just “be kids” without the responsibility, criticism, and threats of everyday life in the city.We believe that by exposing children to nature, agriculture, and the sources of their food, they will gain a sense of compassion for our planet and each other.
We look forward to strengthening our partnership relations with several Trenton agencies.We continue to work with the Boys/Girls Club of Trenton, Sacred Heart Church, Catholic Charities Hispanic Center, Kingsbury Manor Apartments, Isles, Inc., and this year we have begun to work with Mercer Street Friends Center as well.

YouthGrow Partnership between Isles, Inc. and Fernbrook Farms
Since 2010, Fernbrook Farms Education Center and Isles, Inc have partnered up to ensure that Trenton Urban Youth have the opportunity to experience the wonders of nature first-hand.In addition to setting up school gardens at participating schools, together we have developed a Unit of Study program.This program involves bringing an instructor from Isles, Inc. and Fernbrook Farms Education Center to teach three on-site classes, and brings the students to Fernbrook Farms for a hands-on experience.Teachers have the choice of four Unit of Study Programs based on their own curriculum.These programs are:Wetlands Study, Forest Ecology Study, Farm Study, and Adaptations Study.You can read more about bringing these programs to your school in the School Field Trips section of our website.
